Stitching with beads
Photographs from the Community
I decided to make this Mandala a Christmas Card Topper as I had lots of green, gold and red metallic thread left over after completing my 2018 Christmas cards.
I copied the design onto a white 180gsm matte card cut at 14.5 x 13.5cm.
I completed the stitching before attaching any beads. I have used single threads of gold to stitch the centre star. I then completed using a single metallic red thread to stitch the 10 point 6 central stars, and the outer 10 point stars.
The single green metallic thread I then used to complete the pairs of 12 swirls.
I was then able to stitch the gold swirls and to attach the 4 gold glass seed beads to each of these gold swirls using the same gold metallic thread.
To the central star I have glued a yellow gold gem. The 12 red metallic 6mm rice beads each have a tiny red seed bead attached at the outer end.
The inner green swirls each have a 7mm glass tube bead and a tiny green glass seed bead attached to the outer edge.
The outer green swirls each have a 7mm tube glass bead with a gold glass seed bead attached at the outer edges.
I have used 6 bright green sequins to attach onto the card using a gold glass seed beads in each of the sequin centres, and underneath each of the sequins I have used 2 gold glass 7mm tube beads.
To complete the beading part of the project I have used 6 sequins, 36 gold seed beads, 12 red rice beads, 12 red seed beads, 12 green tube beads and 6 green seed beads.
I have used a total of 84 beads.
I have backed the completed stitched and beaded card with a white light weight backing sheet cut at 14 x 13cm, to secure the stitching and then attached this to the 15.5x14.5cm Christmas stripe backing sheet, and then onto a 16.5x15.5cm gold foil backing sheet using D.S. tape.
The main ivory card is cut at 31.5x20.5cm and scored and folded.
I have used a polka dot red ribbon to attach across the angle of the top Right hand corner and the lower left hand corner and attached the bow securing the tails at the rear with power tape before using D.S. tape to attach the completed topper to the card front.
I have attached the peel off sentiment onto gold foil paper and used red peel off decorative strips, a reindeer and a star as embellishments.
To complete the inset I have used the Christmas stripe strips on the outer left and right edges of the insert and then attached the sheet, I have copied the verse onto, to the centre section of the insert and added some small Christmas themed pictures from wrapping paper left over after Christmas gift wrapping.
The verse is from the Christmas free verse section. It has made a bigger card than I normally post as this card will be dropped off during a pre- Christmas visit.
It is a beautiful and delightful image with universal use and I loved stitching it together and will use it for many occasions.
