Ed050 Christmas Star
Stitching with beads

I had my heart set on making a Christmas card in silver and dark blue and I am so pleased to have found this absolutely stunning star design by Emy van Schaik.
I printed the sheet and transferred the design onto a royal blue card which I had cut at 12.5 x 12cm.
I usually complete all the stitch first, but as I was using the sliver metallic thread to stitch the complete design, I began the stitching in the centre using a single thread and changed to a double thread to stitch the first set of central 0.5mm metallic silver rice beads.
I then stitched using the single thread the circular star shapes. Using a double thread I then added the 10 outside silver metallic rice beads, and continued in this manner with the next 10 rice beads below the star shapes.
I finished the rest of the beading attaching the next 10 rice beads and the 10 round silver metallic beads.
This then made the stitching lines very easy to complete as the beads had set the guide lines. In total I have used 40 silver metallic rice beads and 10 tiny round silver metallic beads. The results are beautiful and certainly make a handsome Christmas greeting card.
I have defined the edges of the royal blue card with a silver metallic pen, and attached a silver satin and metallic ribbon across horizontally 2.5cm down from the top edge to help give some dimension to the image.
I then backed the topper with a white card which measures 13 x 13.5cm, using D.S. tape and I have defined the edges of this with the same silver pen.
The main card is white and is cut at 29 x 15cm and to the front of this I have attached the topper and the backing sheet using D.S. tape.
I have then added silver peel offs to the corners, a sentiment, and this tied silver and organza bow.
To make the insert I have used cup814313_79993, Christmas lace effect, a design by Clare Walker, and changed the colour to be silver in appearance, and added a verse from the Christmas friends’ free verse list and some small peel offs.
I know I will have to keep a list of to whom I have sent this to each Christmas, so that I do not double up as this is certainly a greeting card for the recipient to remember.
