Lovers Lane 7x7Completed by Pamela Horton The whispering Platypus
OccasionFran Dent has offered this universal card design for sale that has so much potential use.
It would even suit valentines’ day, and for my need it is most apt, as the regular weekly card I send my Uncle and Aunt, who remember their courting days, of the mid 1930’s when after church they were allowed to use the horse and buggy after church to bring the younger siblings home, and offer their beaus a lift.
I printed the sheet supplied onto 120gsm CB white matte card at 14.7 x 19.78cm. I cut out the main element and made a backing sheet a deep sea green cut at 12.75cm square.
I used a black marker and a ruler to edge the backing sheet before attaching it using padded D.S. padded tape to the back of the main element.
I used 2 ribbons, a narrow aqua check and a pale aqua 1cm wide satin ribbon together to attach horizontally to the back of the sea green backing sheet 6.75cm up from the lower edge.
I then attached a pale white floral water marked aqua backing sheet which is cut at 13.75cm square and then a white backing sheet cut at 14cm square using D.S. tape to the back of the sea green backing sheet.
I wrapped the ribbon tails together round to the back of the last white backing sheet, attaching it firmly at the back.
I was then able to use the coral coloured card front, which measures 15cm square to attach the completed topper.
I then used the gold and silver peel off strips to the card front around the edge of the sea green backing sheet and the pale aqua sheet.
I slipped the edges under the ribbon so that it appears the strip is continuous. I could have done this before attaching the ribbon to the back to make it easier. I then cut out all the elements and used the step by step method to complete the decoupage.
I didn’t have any of the suggested gel glue on hand so used very thin D.S. padded tape, and cut out the tiny pieces as I needed them.
To cut out the spokes in the wheel, I used a craft knife, slowly and carefully, finishing off with my very tiny needle work style scissors.
I made a rabbits ears bow using both ribbons together and attached it with red power tape.
For the insert, I used a darker version of the pale aqua backing sheet, and attached the gingham ribbon, attached a paper copy of the card front, added some of the paper decoupage pieces and drew a small black and tortoise shell cat.
I know my Aunt and Uncle will love this momentum, and I have many other uses for this design, including Birthday, Hello, Mothers’ day, Get well, and many more.
Thank you for such a delightful well thought out design. Pamela Horton. The Whispering Platypus
