! was so happy to see this design, by Karen Heavuside offered for purchase as I had been trying to work out how to present my little hand-made gifts for my 8 craft and card making friends, when we celebrate Christmas together while actively enhancing our skills and having lots of fun.
I made one set to practice first, and then decided to make all 8 at the same time.
I printed all the sheets 8 times on white card, and then turned over the box lid and box bottom pieces and printed the backing sheet onto the back of each of the 8.
I cut out the box sheets and used gloss varnish lacquer and a fine brush to seal the outside of each sheet.
While they were drying I cut out all the elements for the bauble and the inserts and the card. I sealed all of these with the same lacquer.
I then made up the boxes using red power tape and attached the inserts. To make the card I have used another copy of the backing sheet. And scored and folded it to make a 12x12cm card front.
I made a backing sheet of red 10.5 x 10cm and green 10.5 x 1.5cm and attached the ribbon across the join before attaching this to the card front.
I then attached the image of the card front and the decoupage which I had sealed with the lacquer. I used the other section of the card on the inside as part of the insert. I used the elements for the bauble to complete the decoupage on both sides.
The first time I made the sample I attached small pieces of the main backing sheet onto the sides of the inside of the box lid and bottom.
It was much more successful by printing the backing sheet onto the reverse of the box images. Every section of this design matches perfectly and I have made all 8 ever so quickly and easily.
The drying time is the only delay if the weather is cool, but by the time I had completed the sealing lacquer application for each set the previous set was dry.
Thank you Karen, this has been a very rewarding easy to follow project. Pamela Horton. The Whispering Platypus.
