Happy birthday - let your inner unicorn shine

This is a magical greeting design, and has such universal appeal for young girls, right up to older teen age, and young ladies.

The Unicorn mythical creature belongs in the land with fairies, goblins and mermaids in the minds of some of the young females in our lives.

I have used purple as the supporting colour, and pearls, stars and extra ribbon and a bow, for this greeting card and made a gift card to match.

I printed the sheet supplied onto white card and backed the main image with a 13 x 9cm white backing sheet , and this again with a deep purple 14 x 10cm backing sheet.

The main card is gloss white and cut at 15x10.5cm and is scored and folded before attaching the topper. To prepare the topper, I cut out the main image and defined the edges with a fine line purple pen and then attached the 2 purple ribbons in line with the ribbons on the main image, using D.S. tape.

I left the tails loose to secure later.

I then used D.S tape to attach this to the 13 x 9cm white backing sheet. I used a purple pen first on the edges and then the silver glitter glue around all 4 edges. I set this aside to dry for a few minutes before attaching it to the next backing sheet.

I prepared the purple 14 x 10 cm backing sheet by adding the glitter silver peel off strips, which I had coloured purple previously with the same purple pen.

I used D.S. tape to attach the topper to this and then secured the purple ribbon tails at the back of the purple backing sheet.

I then attached this to the card front using Padded D.S. tape.

I added the pearl gems to the ribbon, tied the bow and secured it with red power tape. I left the decoupage to complete after I had finished the insert. The insert is a pale mauve lace print with blue birds and I cut 2 pieces to fit before attaching the smaller elements, a few stars and a blank white section for a verse orf personal greeting.

I then cut out the step by step unicorn elements and attached them using thick white glue. I used the same purple backing sheet to make the 11 x6cm gift card. I am thrilled with the outcome of this mystical birthday greeting, by Susan Lawn, I really enjoyed putting all the elements together.
