Ed115 Floral Mandala
Stitching with beads
Photographs from the Community
This busy floral mandala design by Emy van Schaik, lends itself to so many floral combinations and will suit so many celebrations, I will be able to use it many more times, knowing each one will look so different when completed.
I have used a tiny delicate holly star and berry print, on off white card, as the back ground to copy the design.
I have used green, red and gold metallic thread to complete the stitching before attaching the beads. At the end of each of the 10 green swirls, I have attached a red metallic 5mm rice bead.
At the mid-way point, as indicated on the stitching guide, of each of the 10 gold swirls, I have attached a gold metallic 5mm rice bead.
To complete the stitching and bead attachment for the outer decorative circle, I have used 10 red metallic 5mm rice beads,49 bright, dark, multi coloured luminescent metallic rice beads, and 57 tiny red opaque seed beads.
In total I have used 136 beads to complete the project.
Before I attached the plain backing sheet to the back of the completed stitched and beaded topper, I used the flat part of my Craft Knife to flatten and smooth the holes from the underside, I had anticipated using in the outer circle, and however did not use.
The fact that the backing has a delicate print also has eliminated clear view of these tiny pricked holes. I trimmed the completed topper down to measure 14cm square and attached this to a red quilted 14.75cm saqure backing sheet.
I added some gold glitter stars to complete the Christmas look I wanted to achieve. The main A4 white card is printed on both sides with cup479109_936, A Christmas background, a design sheet by Marijke Kok.
I cut this down to measure 29.5 x 15cm and attached a red narrow ribbon with a tiny self- bow onto the edge of the inside of the left hand side of the card front and used red power tape to secure it on both the inside and the outside of the card front.
I used D.S. tape to attach the topper to the front of the card.
I used a copy paper image of the same Christmas design to make the extra insert and attached it to the inside back cover of the main card, before completing the front page of this extra insert with a sentiment and a small image of the front of the card.
I have used gold peel off strips, a corner embellishment and a red star to complete this page.
For the inside of the extra insert I have used a Christmas verse, available on the free Christmas verses list for friends to print onto a white sheet, added a reindeer and some stars as embellishments.
This amazing design by Emy, like all her designs, looks very complicated and difficult and yet, once started, so easy to follow the easy instructions and turns out perfect every time, with the outcome worth the effort.
