Ed023 Lotus Mandala
Stitching with beads
Photographs from the Community
I have chosen to make some of the larger metallic rice beads asa dominant feature in the completion of this project and use the shades of regular sewing thread in aqua and three shades of peach pink for the stitching.
The main pink textured pink card is cut at 27 x 15cm and scored and folded, before attaching the topper, in the landscape position.
I have attached the two floral pink tone, 14.5x12.75cm and pale peach pink 13.5x12cm backing sheets together using D.S. tape and then wrapped the aqua ribbon across the centre, again in the landscape position and secured the tails at the back before attaching the backing sheet group, using D.S. tape to the card front.
The white card for the transfer of the design is 13 x 11cm and I have completed all the stitching before attaching the beads.
I have also coloured the centre star of the lotus flower in a peach pink shade.
The total 144 beads I have used to complete the project sounds a lot but as they are comprised of tiny seed beads as well as the larger beads, they very easily and quickly fit into the design.
There are 18 larger 7mm luminescent metallic rice beads and 18 matching smaller 4mm rice beads and 12 very tiny dark blue seed beads attached to the end of the central pairs of larger rice beads.
I have alternated the 36 round clear glass luminescent 2mm beads with the 24 tiny blue, glass seed beads and used 36 tiny glass tube beads for the straight lines leading to the central star.
I defined the outside edges of the finished stitched and beaded topper using an aqua metallic pen and attached the 12 x 10.5 cm backing sheet using red power tape to the back of the completed work and then attached this completed work to the card front.
I made a bow using the same ribbon and attached this to the card front. To complete the insert, I attached a simple verse, the small photograph of the completed card front, and a sentiment.
I am so pleased with the outcome of the combination of using delicate coloured threads and bold and delicate shades of beads.
Thank you for offering this design for purchase it has challenged and tantalised my imagination. Pamela Horton. The Whispering Platypus.
