Ed061 Lace Doily
Stitching with beads
Photographs from the Community
I have been collecting small doilies at the moment from op shops, to mend and re attach the beads, to place on our craft clubs table for sale as proceeds for the cancer appeal, and I have a like-minded craft friend having a birthday and the name of this design, by Emy, was just what I was looking for to purchase for this project.
Keeping within the theme and attempting to make the design appear as a doily, and after I had copied the design onto a white good quality card, I covered the design with the same size vellum paper and clipped the 2 sheets together before I began the stitching..
By beginning with the dark blue embroidery floss in the centre, this helped anchor the 2 sheets together, I followed the very clear instructions on the sheet provided.
I used this same thread for the next section of the design and completed this round by using a silver white embroidery thread to stitch around this blue design.
The next round is stitched with pale silver blue embroidery floss and to complete the circle enclosing this round, I have used the same silver white embroidery floss.
To complete the next round I have used 3 shades darker in the silver blue embroidery floss and again used the silver white thread around each of the 5 points.
The outside section of the design is completed using the silver white thread with the outer defining edges in the same silver blue as the last round.
I completed all the stitching before attaching the beads. I have used 16 gold 6mm metallic rice beads, and for the points of the pale silver blue section I have used 16 3mm white round pearls.
To complete the outside round of beads, I have used one tiny gold coloured glass seed bead together with the same gold metallic rice beads and in between each of these I have attached the same size round pearls.
To complete the stitching, I have used all single thread embroidery floss, and to complete the beading part of the project I have used 32 gold metallic rice beads, 16 gold glass seed beads and 32 tiny round pearls.
I have cut away the card and vellum leaving a circle of approximately 12 cm and secured the stitching at the back with red power tape before attaching this using D.S. tape to an ivory white 13cm paper doily.
I have used a gold foil 15cm square as the backing sheet and attached this to a sky blue 16cm card front.
I have used a dark blue fine line peel off strip and then covered this with a decorative glitter scallop lace peel off strip along the edges of the gold backing sheet.
To complete the insert I have printed 3 copies in the landscape position of the Botanical Blue Leaf print, cup827619_79993, a design by Clare Walker and used 2 to make the desired length, 31.5 x 15.75cm, as the main lining of the main card and one to cut down to 29.5 x 14.75 and folded this at 14 cm in from the left hand side so that the front page is shorter than the back page , which I attached directly on the back of the inside back botanical print page.
I have used a verse to print onto the botanical print to attach to the front cover of the now newer insert, and used peel off embellishments on both left and right hand side.
I have opened the insert and added a photograph minimised to fit onto a 9cm white paper doily and attached these to the left hand side.
I have left the right hand side free for my special message. This beautiful design and the colours I have used have made this card a very special gift for my friend.
I will be able to use this design with many other shades for many occasions. Pamela Horton.
