I have made this happy Sun Flower stitching design into a Fathers’ Day greeting card to send to my son, as it represents a sunny day, which is what I wish for him.
I copied and stitched the design onto plain white card using 3 different shades of orange embroidery floss and using a combination of return running stitch and back stitch to complete the stitching.
The vein lines are stitched using 2 different strands of orange floss together. The area surrounding the brown centre is stitched with 2 different shades of brown floss held together and again using a combination of return running stitch and back stitch.
I have used my water colour pencils to shade the petals and to give the appearance of the seeds in the central area of the flower.
I then cut around the flower, leaving a margin of at least 4mm of white card exposed and backed the stitching with plain paper using D.S. tape to secure the stitching.
I made the main card a pale orange cut at 28cm x 14cm and scored and folded it.
I have made the topper by using D.S. tape to attach together a white 13cm square card, a black 12cm square card and a deeper orange coloured 11cm square card together and wrapping a black with white spot ribbon across 4cm up from the bottom edge and securing the ends at the back.
I then attached the completed stitched and coloured sun flower to the front using padded D.S. tape. I have attached a bow made from the same ribbon to the right hand opening side.
To complete the insert I have used a copy of a previous purchase, cup838330_1398, Roses and Sunflower on sheet Music, a design by Ceredwyn Mcrae, to attach the main image and the verse section.
I am delighted with the result of this completed project, thank you for the lovely design I will be able to use it for many celebrations and occasions.
